His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Founder Acharya of ISKCON

Srila Prabhupada born in 1896 (Kolkata), was a great spiritual teacher who dedicated his entire life spreading the message of the Bhagavad Gita and Vedic wisdom with the world. From his young age, he had deep faith in Lord Krishna. After meeting his spiritual master in 1922, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, he left the comfortable life and devoted himself completely to the mission of sharing the knowledge of Bhagavad Gita to the world.

At the age of 69, he travelled alone to the United States to spread spiritual knowledge. In 1966, he founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in NEW YORK to share the teachings of bhakti yoga(devotion). Through his spiritual books like ‘Bhagavad Gita As It Is’, ‘Krishna – The Supreme Personality of Godhead’, ‘Teachings of Lord Caitanya’, ‘Sri Caitanya-caritamrita’, he inspired millions of people to follow the path of devotion. Even after he left, he set an example for people to live with faith, kindness and spiritual understanding.

Why Srila Prabhupada’s Teachings Are Authentic

Srila Prabhupada’s books are authentic because every explanation, insight, and explanation he offers is based on references from the Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, and Bhagavad Gita. He simply presented the Vedic truths exactly as they are. His writings are not based on personal opinion—they are a faithful representation of the original scriptures. This is why millions trust his teachings, and why we follow his vision with confidence, clarity, and devotion.

The wisdom of Bhagavad Gita was passed from Lord Krishna to Brahma, then to Narada Muni, Vyasadeva, Madhvacharya, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, The Six Goswamis, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, and finally to Srila Prabhupada, who shared the precious teachings to the world.

As mentioned in Bhagavad Gita Shloka 4.2, Srila Prabhupada received this spiritual knowledge through the ancient Guru–Shishya Parampara, where knowledge is passed down directly from guru, keeping it pure, authentic, and trustworthy.

Srila Prabhupada’s Books and Their Vedic Sources

In Bhagavad Gita As It Is, he presents the original Sanskrit verses of the Gita along with purports which includes the verse, word-to-word meaning, and explanations supported by Upanishads and Puranas.

Srila Prabhupada’s purports are filled with references. For example, in the ‘Bhagavad Gita As it is’ he often quotes Kaṭha Upanishad (BG 2.13, 2.20), Śvetāśvatara Upanishad (BG 7.7, 15.15), and Muṇḍaka Upanishad (BG 13.12). This proves that his explanations are not his opinions, they are supported at every step by Vedic scriptures. In ‘Sri Caitanya-caritamrita’, Srila Prabhupada explains everything using original references from Srimad Bhagavatam and  Brahma-samhita. Because every point is supported by these trusted Vedic scriptures, his books are clear, reliable, and fully based on authentic sources.
