Bhagavad Gita Ch 1.1 - What is Dharmakshetre

The word 'Dharmakshetre' (धर्मक्षेत्रेappears in the very first shloka of the Bhagavad Gita and refers to Kurukshetra, the sacred land where the great battle was fought.

Dharmakshetre means a place of righteousness and right actions. In the Bhagavad Gita, it refers to Kurukshetra, where an important battle took place. It teaches us that life is like a battlefield, where we must choose between right and wrong. The Gita begins with this word to remind us that our decisions should always be based on truth, duty, and good values.
